GPON Optical Power Budget Calculator

Add up fiber, connector, splice, and splitter losses to see the power arriving at the ONT and whether your link has enough margin above the ONT receiver sensitivity.

What this tool does

In a fibre (GPON) network, the light from your OLT is split many ways and loses strength over distance, through connectors, and at each splice. This tool adds up those losses and tells you whether enough signal reaches the customer's box (the ONT) for the connection to work reliably.

Your fibre path

The transmit power from your OLT port, from its datasheet
The ONT receiver sensitivity, usually a negative number like -28
0.35 is typical for single-mode fibre
Each pair adds about 0.5 dB of loss
Each splice adds about 0.1 dB of loss

Planning an FTTH rollout?

Our FTTH rollout guide covers OLT selection, split ratio design, and fiber plant planning, and Network Design and Optimization covers the full build as an engagement.
